Transit

“Transit” has as main focus young women (aged19-21) and their relationship to the camera in a moment of complete vulnerability. By stripping them off any make up or fancyclothing , the images start to make comments about confidence and society’s expectationsof females,  in connection to the portrayal of women in fashion and commercialphotography. The girls in the picturesare thus depicted in a moment of transition between teenage and adulthood ,when the search of one’s self mainly gravitates around the dynamics of who oneis, as opposed to an socially idealizedidentity that each of us adopt at some point in our lives.

The Polaroid-like aesthetic works as a proofof the intimacy I have had with the subjects, while being a reference tofashion test shots. However, although a power relationship runs through all theimages in the series, my gaze is not disempowering or brutal, but ratherpenetrating and empathetic. The crownthe models wear in the each of the shots is a translation of “The Wonder Woman” concept, asan allusion to the feminist movement and the social status of the contemporarywoman. Is the typological approach tothe series that allows the viewer to observe the differences between thecategory and the individual and to perceive the feeling of self -consciousnesswhich the photographs exude.
